Released in 1996, Pentastar: In the Style of Demons was the first Earth full-length to move the Pacific Northwest outfit from stoned-and-droned sonic experiments towards a more traditionally-rocked, though no-less bong-baked sound. Backed by a full band, guitarist-vocalist Dylan Carlson steers the group through a series of hypnotic crushes, detuned Delta-blues subversion and Hendrix covers. The sound of a hotboxed road-racer plummeting into a kush-lined purple void, Pentastar is a psychedelic stoner-metal masterpiece.
