Satanic prayers, occult-rock pageantry, papal roleplay Opus Eponymous, the debut offering from Ghost, really had it all. As prepared by vocalist Papa Emeritus and his band of Nameless Ghouls, the bands 2010 full-length was an electric, Luciferian first look at a future metal institution. The soaring, but sacrilegious songcraft of all-timers like Ritual and Elizabeth bear the mark of the devil, but also the influence of Mercyful Fate, psych-tinged Seventies arena prog and more. Ghosts heaviest, most gloom-swung album is still worshipped by the faithful, and can be possessed again on classic black wax.
