Progressive alt-metal trio Kings X went ultra dark and doomy with 1994s Dogman, the bands most massive-sounding release. Produced by Brendan OBrien (Pearl Jam, Stone Temple Pilots), it contrasts trudging, broken-spirited grunge-blues (Shoes) with bassist dUg Pinnicks unshakably soulful vocals and a swaggering take on Jimi Hendrixs Manic Depression. The record put them on the road to with Pearl Jam, landed them a spot at Woodstock 94, and yielded a radio hit with its title track. While they always had that dog in them, theres something truly remarkable about the overall bite of their Dogman.

With strong approval from both critics and fans, Dogman is often considered as one of their best works to date.
