Kiss second album of 1976 and fifth in two years is a testament to the New York rockers round-the-clock work ethic. It may not be as grandly symphonic as Destroyer, but stripped-to-the-bone follow-up Rock & Roll Over still blisters with swagger and charisma. Guitarist-vocalist Paul Stanely contorts himself through songs both starry-eyed and salacious (I Want You), while bassist Gene Simmons cruises around as a low-riding lothario on Calling Dr. Love. Then theres Hard Luck Woman, a song theyd considered sending to Rod Stewart before letting drummer and Beth vocalist Peter Criss take a crack at it.
