Like Clockwork was written following a near-death experience for Queens leader Josh Homme, and the deep, depressive period that followed. Perhaps understandably, the bands sixth full-length isnt one of Queens of the Stone Ages most uproarious rock and roll efforts its opening Keep Your Eyes Peeled exists upon a macabre, spidery slink, while The Vampyre of Time and Memory is a beautifully dark goth-glam contemplation. Yet it still finds the band delivering its signature, sensual desert-rock (I Sat by the Ocean) and it features big-time contributions from Trent Reznor, Dave Grohl, Elton John and members of Arctic Monkeys.
