Though Queens of the Stone Age quickly locked into their uniquely hypnotic and heavy brand of desert rock on their first pair of full-lengths, its 2003s Songs for the Deaf that cemented the group as full-blown icons. Whether sung through Josh Hommes sinister-yet-sexy croon, Nick Oliveris man-on-the-edge sneer or Mark Lanegans world-weary drawl, the groups third full-length is a towering showcase of fuzz-blown gloom, slime-slickened metal waltzes and more. Dave Grohl also hit the drums on this recording, which no doubt only made the Queens Songs for the Deaf even louder. Meant to be blasted, and ready to spin on double LP.
