A post-hardcore supergroup with an enormously impressive pedigree, Rival Schools found Quicksand vocalist-guitarist Walter Schreifels melding anthem alt-rock melodies and swerve-heavy grooves with members of Youth of Today and Iceburn. The lesson plan of 2001s United by Fate illustrates that they could transform the drive and energy of their shared hardcore heritage with soaring hooks, drum loops and almost surf-adjacent guitar play.
