Max Cavalera may have sung on Arise standout Dead Embryonic Cells that we were all born into a condemned future, but his Brazilian bands fourth full-length made it clear that the groups musicianship, at least, was on an upward trajectory. Even across a legendary catalogue, there still may be no greater thrill than the precision punishment of the opening title tracks lead riff. While peppered with in-miniature moments of industrial experimentation and tribal drumming both tangents to be explored further in Sepulturas future Arise is the last primarily thrash-based record of the Cavalera era, and its a ripper par excellence.
