After coming up as key figures in New Yorks late Eighties hardcore scene, former Youth of Today members Ray Cappo and guitarist John Porcell Porcelly expanded their artistic and spiritual horizons with their Hare Krishna-focused Shelter. 1995s Mantra still laid down intense and speedy Youth Crew tunes, but the band also spread the message of the Bhagavat while bounding through rap-rock rhythms and spirited pop-punk arrangements. A consciousness-expanding hardcore classic, repressed for its 30th anniversary on Red and Clear Ghostly vinyl, redelivered with its original cover art and sporting a new gatefold layout.
