Stone Temple Pilots were grunge-era mega-stars by the time they started tracking their 1994 sophomore full-length. While it couldve stuck firmly to a plush-and-creepy, chart-proven formula and sometimes it did Purples 12 gracious melodies swirl through bombastic alt-rock hooks, Gen X gloom, earnest country-road anthems, art-metal guitar heroism, and a touch of Zeppelins Eastern-modeled mysticism. Truly, STP were adventurous at their core.
