Ixnay on the Hombre was a pivotal album for the Offspring. Following the explosive popularity of their 1994 breakthrough, Smash, the O.C. band branched out from fastball pitch punk and dipped their toes into wine-drunk psychedelia (Me and My Old Lady) and kooky funk-rock (I Choose), hitting a homer with the radio-dominating power-ballad, Gone Away. Songs like Cool to Hate and All I Want still provide their lovable pop-punk sneer, but Ixnay was anything but a Smash 2.0.
