Though 1992s Opiate marked a quick and curious first step for TOOL, even its broadest strokes gave listeners a sense of the greatness to come. The primordial alt-gloom oozing out of EP bruisers like Sweat or the sludge-funked Hush may hit a little more direct and heavy compared to even the following years monolithic Undertow, but it was clear TOOL had plenty packed their bag of tricks including evocatively eerie vocal powerhouse Maynard James Keenan. A humble but hard-hitting set of studios tracks and live recordings from the future progressive visionaries.
